Hearing From God | Week 2
Hearing God Isn’t Complicated
At Antioch, we regularly ask a simple yet transformative question:
God, what do You want me to know?
It’s a daily discipleship rhythm. A way to slow down, tune in, and hear the voice of our Shepherd (John 10:27).
This Sunday, we took it a step further and asked:
God, what do You want me to know—for them?
Because sometimes God wants to speak to someone through you.
A Fig Tree, a Word, and a Changed Life
In John 1:43–51, we read about Jesus meeting Nathanael. Jesus simply says:
“I saw you while you were still under the fig tree.”
That’s it. No dramatic miracle. No long speech. Just one sentence.
Yet that simple phrase unlocks Nathanael’s heart, and he responds:
“Rabbi, You are the Son of God.”
Why? Because Jesus saw him—really saw him—in a meaningful, personal moment.
That’s the power of a word from God, even when it’s simple. And that’s the invitation for each of us: to let God use our voice to deliver His encouragement, strength, and comfort to others.
God Spoke to Me… Through a Friend
Pastor Chris shared a moment from a recent men’s gathering. One of our elders came up and said:
“God sees everything you see, and He is making provision for it.”
That one sentence became an anchor during a season filled with uncertainty. It was exactly what was needed.
It wasn’t dramatic. It was Spirit-led encouragement.
This is what a prophetic lifestyle looks like—normal people asking simple questions and faithfully sharing what they hear.
Boundaries That Help Us Hear and Share Well
To create a safe, honoring environment, we use a few guidelines when practicing hearing God for others:
No dates.
Don’t try to put God on a schedule.
No mates.
Don’t tell people who they’ll marry.
No correction.
This is not a chance to fix someone or offer passive-aggressive advice.
No direction.
Avoid prescribing decisions about someone’s life path.
Instead, filter every word through this lens:
Does it encourage?
Does it strengthen?
Does it comfort?
Not everything you hear is meant to be shared. Sometimes God invites you to pray rather than speak. We’re not trying to be perfect—we’re learning to practice.
Daily Practice: Ask the Question
Here’s the invitation for this week:
Each day, pause and ask:
God, what do You want me to know—for them?
Pray. Listen. And if God gives you something encouraging, consider sharing it with humility and love.
It might be a verse, a word, a thought, or even just a reminder: I see you.
Final Thought
You were made to hear God’s voice.
You don’t need a title or a position. You just need to be available.
God wants to speak to you—for you.
God wants to speak to you—for others.
And sometimes, God will speak to you through others.
That’s what we’re learning: to be a people who hear and respond, together.
