Hearing From God | Week 1
Living an Everyday Prophetic Lifestyle
What if hearing from God wasn’t reserved for the spiritually elite—but something we’re all created to do? At Antioch, we believe living a prophetic lifestyle is not about performance, it's about practice. It’s about learning to tune our hearts to the voice of God in the middle of our everyday lives—and allowing His voice to lead us into deeper love, mission, and transformation.
In this post, we’ll walk through three key rhythms that make up an everyday prophetic life:
1. Hearing God's Voice
Most people don’t need to be taught how to hear God—they need permission to believe they already do. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice… I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27).
Hearing God isn’t just about audible words or dramatic visions. It’s often subtle and deeply personal. He speaks through Scripture, thoughts, impressions, emotions, pictures, dreams, nature, and even physical sensations.
We’re not trying to convince God to speak. He already is.
We’re simply learning to recognize His voice.
Practice this: Throughout your day, pause and ask:
👉 “God, what do You want me to know right now?”
Let the still, small voice speak. Listen with your heart, your senses, and your imagination.
2. Sharing What God is Saying
Once we begin to hear God clearly, the next step is courageously sharing what He’s speaking—with wisdom and humility.
God often gives us words to encourage, strengthen, and comfort others (1 Corinthians 14:3). That might look like praying over someone, writing a note of encouragement, or speaking a simple word in conversation.
We’re not trying to be right—we’re trying to be faithful.
As we create space to listen and share in our services and life groups, we learn how to build each other up with what God is speaking.
Practice this: Ask God if there’s someone He wants you to encourage today. Then act on it.
3. Stewarding What God Has Said
Hearing and sharing are just the beginning. When God speaks, we are responsible to steward those words—meaning we remember them, reflect on them, and respond in obedience.
Like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24), we often don’t realize it was Jesus speaking until later. But as they walked with Him, something began to burn in their hearts. That burning is worth paying attention to.
Whether it’s a promise, a correction, or an invitation, we ask:
“God, what do You want me to do with this?”
Practice this: Start journaling what you hear from God. Date it. Pray through it. Revisit it often. Let it shape your decisions and direction.
Final Thoughts
This lifestyle isn’t reserved for the few—it’s the normal Christian life.
God is already speaking to you in your daily life—in the car, while doing dishes, during worship, on your walk, or even as you watch your kids play.
Let’s become people who tune our ears and hearts to His voice, practice listening with each other, and walk in faith as we share and respond.
Because God is still speaking—and we’re learning to listen.
