Hearing From God | Week 3
When God Speaks: What Comes Next?
The Tension Between Word & Fulfillment
Many of us have felt it: God speaks, but the fulfillment takes time. That’s not unusual in Scripture—it’s the pattern:
Abraham: a promise of innumerable descendants, 25 years for the first child.
Moses: decades of preparation, then 40 years to the edge of the Promised Land.
Joseph: prophetic dreams, 13 years of pits, prisons, and perseverance.
David: anointed as a teen, crowned in his 30s after years of ups and downs.
Waiting brings discouragement, doubt, and a hundred “why” questions. But the Word gives us a path through it.
Learning From John 11 (Lazarus)
Reading the story fresh (try to forget the ending for a moment), notice:
Jesus delays two days—out of love. We don’t always get the “why,” but we can trust His heart.
Martha comes with honest pain: “Lord, if You had been here…”—and still chooses faith: “Even now…”
Mary brings her tears. Jesus weeps with her before He works for her. He’s after relationship, not just results.
Then Jesus does what He said He would do. The miracle is about belief, love, and the glory of God.
“Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” — John 11:40
“Jesus wept.” — John 11:35
What Jesus Is After in the In‑Between
Your Belief — Faith is forged in waiting, not just in the instant yes.
Your Heart — He wants you more than your outcome; He meets you in grief and doubt.
His Glory — Our stories are designed to point back to Him.
How We Steward a Word From God
From Habakkuk 2:1–4, here’s our game plan:
Posture Yourself to Listen
Set a daily moment (30–120 seconds works):“God, what do You want me to know?”
“God, what do You want me to know for them?”
“God, what do You want me to do?” (the obedient next step)
Write It Down
“Write the vision; make it plain…” Keep a simple record (note card, journal, notes app). Clear words are easier to remember, test, and run with.Wait by Faith
“If it seems slow, wait for it… the righteous shall live by faith.”
Keep showing up. Keep obeying the last clear thing God said. Invite trusted people to pray and weigh what you’ve heard.
A Simple Weekly Practice
Daily: Ask one of the questions above and write one sentence.
Midweek: Share one thing you heard with a friend/Lifegroup; ask if it resonates and how to pray.
Sunday: Come ready to encourage someone with what God put on your heart (gently, humbly, biblically).
If you’re in a long season of waiting or pain, please don’t carry it alone. Our pastors, elders, and Lifegroup leaders would love to stand with you in prayer—to be the arm around your shoulder that says, “Jesus loves you. He’s with you in the waiting.”
