In the City, for the City: There Is Power in Your Passion (week 4)
What happens when your plans change, your comfort is disrupted, and God redirects your steps? You lean in and listen. That’s exactly where we are as a church—and what a beautiful place to be.
This week, we kicked off a new series called “In the City for the City.” It’s more than a title—it’s a declaration. In this season, God is calling us to see our homes, jobs, classrooms, and favorite coffee shops not just as part of our routine, but as part of our mission field.
Because the truth is—revival doesn’t start on a stage. It starts in your living room, your office, your lunch break, and your neighborhood sidewalk. You were placed in Austin on purpose, for a purpose. And the question we’re asking as a church is this: What would it look like to own the geography God has given us?
Let’s dive in.
Throughout this series, we’ve been rooted in Jeremiah 29:4–7—a letter from God to His people in exile:
“Build houses and settle down... Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you... because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” (Jer. 29:5–7)
God’s call wasn’t to escape. It was to plant, build, and thrive—even in a place that didn’t feel like home. That same call is for us here in Austin. We’re not just passing through. We’re here to make this city better, fuller, more vibrant with the color of the Kingdom.
And the way we live that out? It starts where we are.
Series Recap
In the first week of this series, we talked about how Kingdom transformation begins in our homes. The places we eat, laugh, cry, raise our kids, and host our friends—it all matters to God. A house filled with grace, kindness, and God’s presence becomes a launching pad for transformation beyond its walls.
Last week, we looked at the work we do—how the everyday 9–5 is part of God’s plan. Whether you love your job or feel stuck in it, God wants to move in and through you there.
When we PRAY for our coworkers, CARE for the people around us, and SHARE what Jesus has done in us—we start to see God at work in powerful ways.
It All Starts with Being Loved
Today, we end this journey by zooming out and anchoring our purpose in this truth:
Everything God invites us into begins with His love for us.
Let’s look at 2 Peter 1:3–7, written by the apostle Peter from prison:
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life…”
That word “everything” in Greek is panta—all things. Not just physical needs, but spiritual needs. Peace. Purpose. Provision. Identity. It’s all wrapped up in Jesus.
Peter reminds us that we’re not living in lack—we’re living with access to the divine nature of God through His promises.
And at the center of it all is the greatest promise:
“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son...” (John 3:16)
Life in Jesus isn’t just about eternity—it’s about experiencing life to the full right now. (John 10:10)
But It Takes Effort
“Make every effort to add to your faith…” (2 Peter 1:5)
Faith is the starting line—but it’s not the finish. We are saved in a moment, but becoming like Jesus takes effort.
It takes daily decisions to fix our minds on what is true, pure, and holy. As 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, “we are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory.”
Here’s the truth:
👉 What we meditate on, we reflect.
👉 What we fill our minds with, we begin to mirror.
So if you feel stuck, anxious, or angry—check the inputs. Your playlists, your scroll time, your conversations, your inner narrative—they all shape your spiritual posture.
This isn’t about legalism. It’s about freedom. It’s about letting the truth of God take up more space in your soul than the noise of culture.
Start each day with this prayer:
“God, what do You want me to know today?”
Open the Word. Ask that question. Write it down. Keep it in front of you. Stick a verse on your mirror. Post it on your fridge. Let it shape how you speak, work, and love.
And throughout your week, practice this rhythm:
PRAY for the people around you.
CARE for them in tangible ways.
SHARE your story of what God has done in you.
You don’t need a stage to make an impact. It happens where you are. Right now. Right where you live, work, and play.
The Power of Your Passion
God has placed desires, gifts, and passions inside of you for a purpose. When those passions are ignited by His Spirit, transformation starts to flow—through your home, your workplace, and into the city.
You’re not here by accident. You were made for this moment.
