Spiritual “FOMO”
How many times has this happened to you? You're with some friends, and someone dives into a story. Half the group is busting a gut laughing, while the other half is confused when they hear no flow, plot, or punchline. Then, you hear those dreaded words, "You had to be there."
There are moments when you hear a good story that makes you laugh, but it isn't the same as experiencing it firsthand. You're filled with joy when you have lived that good story yourself. So what is it that makes those moments so unique?
It's our position. We didn't just hear about it; we were there! Because we were in the room, it hit differently. We may not remember all the details, but we'll never forget how it made us feel.
This is what it means to ENCOUNTER! In Matthew 4:19, Jesus says to Peter, "Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people."
What is he talking about? You may feel like you're back in that dinner conversation where everyone gets it except you. But Peter was there. And for him, this was a personal encounter loaded with meaning because of his position in the story.
For many, the Bible is just that, a book of stories. They know about God in theory, but something is missing. Our position matters when it comes to what we ENCOUNTER. When we pull out our Bibles or show up to a Sunday Service, Encounter Night, or Lifegroup, we're positioning ourselves to ENCOUNTER God!
